National Assisted Living Week is a special time when assisted living communities come alive with celebrations that bring residents together. It’s a chance to share stories, make memories, and enjoy events that show the strong bond among residents, caregivers, and families. This year, the theme is Season of Reflection. This week is important to our community because every day is worth celebrating, but it’s important to have a devoted time set aside to make our assisted living residents feel extra special.
At Vitalia North Royalton, we are honoring residents’ lives and experiences by celebrating with a walk through the decades. September 10th kicks off the fun with our annual Grandparents Day Brunch, where we are celebrating our residents by making foods from their recipe cards collected over the decades. On Monday, our Memory Care Director Brandie, is hosting a 1940s themed tea party with live music by Steppin’ Out. We enter the 1950s with Plant Operations Director Bill, who will be serving 50s diner-style chocolate malts. On Wednesday our residents will be feeling groovy as they play 1960s music bingo with Melissa, Wellness Director. Next, we enter the 1970s with our Executive Director Justin, who will be throwing a 70s themed Happy Hour. It’ll be full of peace, love, and snacks. Finally on Friday, the Resident Services Team, Justina and Tressa, will be throwing a “totally far out” 1980s Happy Hour! We’re really looking forward to seeing these plans come to life for our residents.
As the Resident Services Director, I’m most excited about our 1980s party. I also think it will be fun to hear the residents talk about how life has changed over the decades they’ve lived through. Taking the time to celebrate National Assisted Living Week is important because there is so much you can understand about life if you only take the time to listen and learn.
It’s not only a time to celebrate, but also an opportunity to appreciate the staff and volunteers who make assisted living communities what they are today! This week highlights the power of connections, memories, and the spirit of togetherness that makes every resident feel at home.
